It is a treatment that removes re-infected tissue and material from the canals of the roots.

WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL RE-TREATMENT?

10-15% of endodontically treated teeth can get infected again in the future for different reasons. Infection is visible in the x-rays, sometimes there are other symptoms as pain when chewing or swollen area around the infected tooth. Sometims it can be symptom-free. To save the affected tooth, it is necessary to remove all the infected material and tissue from the root canals and desinfect the tooth from the inside. Then obturate root canals again and follow it up to 12months until the infection is gone. Sometimes antibiotics are needed to help your body fight with the infection.

The most common symptoms are pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot foods and beverages, also it can get swollen. Infection can be symptom-free as well.

Anesthesia is necessary many times to avoid pain during the treatment. Many times it depends on the case if it is painful or not. It is pretty common that after the treatment it hurts a little bit or you cannot chew on that tooth for a few days.

The success rate of a root canal re-treatment is somewhere between 75-85%, which means that most of the times the infection goes away and the tooth gets saved, but there is always a risk that it will not heal or get re-infected.

The price of an endodontic re-treatment depends on how many canals there are in the affected tooth (can be from  1 to 4). The price can vary anywhere from 150 to 350eur.
